History of the Krueger-Scott Mansion

The Krueger Mansion is a historic landmark known for its significant architectural and cultural value. Built in the late 19th century, specifically in 1888, the mansion was commissioned by Gottfried Krueger, a prominent beer brewer and businessman. It was designed by architect James R. H. Oyster in the Queen Anne style, characterized by its asymmetrical facade, intricate detailing, and multiple gables.

The Krueger Mansion is notable not only for its architectural beauty but also for its historical significance. It was one of the first residential buildings in the United States to be equipped with electricity, showcasing Krueger's forward-thinking approach to technology. The mansion was also a hub of social activity during its heyday, hosting numerous parties and gatherings for Newark's elite.

In recent years, the mansion has faced challenges related to maintenance and preservation, but efforts have been ongoing to restore and revitalize this important piece of Newark's history. It stands as a reminder of the city's rich industrial past and the legacy of its influential residents.
